Puzzles @ Work

In the game of Mahjong, the goal is to find matching tiles and in the solitaire version I have on my phone, the layers of tiles are arranged in such a way that solving it feels like an easy task.

Except it never is. You click on a tile expecting it to reveal the tile you need, only to discover another layer of tiles. And, so on it goes.

It’s a similar scenario when trying to solve workplace puzzles.

In assessing the problem to solve, it seems as though we can see all the matching elements. Until we start piecing them together and discover it’s more layered than we had realised.

The lessons we learn from the Mahjong puzzle help us to do our best to zoom out and see all the pieces, take our time un-layering and matching them, and to realise that to solve the puzzle takes time, patience, and persistence.

I wonder what puzzles lie ahead this week.
