One In, One Out

One in, one out.

A simple piece of advice in the de-cluttering world. When applied to purchases we make, it can save us from the slow creep of clutter and disorganisation.

It’s a useful motto to apply to our goals, projects, intentions, or similar. Applied to the decisions we make, it can save us from the slow (or, in some cases, fast) creep of being over-committed and overwhelmed.

With the new year often comes a fresh energy for the new. It’s an energy I love. Yet I remain aware that new year energy can have us making impulse purchases in how we spend our time.

When I apply the “one in, one out” principle to work and other projects, I’ll often ask:

If I’m saying YES to this, what am I saying NO to?

It’s a skill that us curious, change-seeking, life-long learning peeps can struggle to apply. I almost never apply it to my reading pile 🤦‍♀️

Thankfully, it’s a skill we can continue to practice and embed.

If you’re finding yourself energised by the possibility of new, how might applying the “one in, one out” motto help you?
