Not Serious

“You can not be serious …”

Read with an American accent, and one might recognise those infamous words from tennis’s John McEnroe.

Seriously, though, what if we had space and permission to ‘not be serious’. Aside from a relatively small number of truly serious matters, most of what we encounter in work and life does not require the level of serious that we often give it.

Not everything is high stakes.

Not everything warrants earnest and intense pressure.

Not everything is a big deal.

Perspective is everything,

and when we step back and allow the ‘not serious’ to be so, we can be ‘not serious’, too.

We can breathe a little easier.

We can talk a little more openly.

We can find joy and gratitude in what we are doing.

We can play with ideas and learnings.

We can feel better.

And, we can laugh a little,

or a lot.

It is the end of another working week and it has me wondering how you’ve made space to ‘not be serious’ this week?
