Just A Mistake

Ah, mistakes. I’ve made a few. How about you?

As the saying goes, if you have never made a mistake, you haven’t lived.

The expectation placed on us from a young age is that we ge things right. Always.

As a professional, and a leader, this belief grows stronger that a mistake undermines our credibility and performance.

The paradox is that, in practice, it is the opposite. By recognising that we all make mistakes at some time, few of which are catastrophic, all of which are learning opportunities, and to give ourselves and others grace is a strength. A leader who is able to accept and embrace a mistake here or there encourages people to innovate and change, try something new, and step outside their comfort zones.

It gives people permission to be human. And that can never be a mistake, don’t you agree?
