Without Expectation

One set of dots.

Two different pictures.

We often end up drawing a certain picture based on our expectations.

Expectations are funny things.

We preempt an outcome.

We experience emotions associated with the outcome.

We modify our behaviour accordingly.

We see different dots, and we join them in a different way.

We’ve often drawn the picture we expect to see before we’ve been handed a pen.

And, then how often is it, that what we expect isn’t what happens?

Yes, too often.

Each and every time my expectations do not match reality, I find myself saying, ‘hmmm, I didn’t expect that!’

Each and every time I bring openness, curiosity and fewer expectations, I get to enjoy drawing the picture, whatever it might be.

How about you?
