Square Pegs
I’ve had many a conversation with leaders about the challenge of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
I’m often asked what hammering, chiselling and sand-papering might help to “fix” the square peg.
What if it isn’t the square peg, after all?
The shape, size and design of the “hole” is often taken as a given. Built on history and decisions made to meet a different set of circumstances, and with different information available. Ever since then, we continue to expect that people are all round pegs, perfectly shaped in this way.
The square pegs don’t always need fixing.
Maybe it’s time to put away the hammer and other tools. It’s time to build a new container, don’t you agree?
