Slow Down
Slow down.
I said to myself as a vehicle passed me at high speed on a quiet road. I smiled to myself as I approached the intersection with its red traffic light and could see said vehicle stopped ahead of me.
Whilst this individual driver’s motivations are unknown, it is symbolic of our relationship with speed. We rush through our days with a desire to be more productive. We write impossible lists and set impossible expectations. We exclaim with frustration that the days and weeks are rushing by. We discover, more often than not, that speed doesn’t get us to our destination any better or faster.
Slow down.
We can give ourselves permission to ease our foot off the pedal.
We can build in time and space for thinking and connecting.
We can do work and life at a different pace.
I’m curious, what might we gain from the decision to slow down?
