Seeking Surprise

I’m not surprised!

A common reaction when we encounter something once again.

When an event, interaction, information or similar, aligns with our story, we can nod knowingly and say, I’m not surprised!

Said with an exclamation mark, it is a fait accompli.

What if it isn’t?

How might we bring our curiosity to the encounter?

How might we actively look for the surprise within the ‘unsurprising’ moment?

If “curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning” as poet William Arthur Ward wrote, what might we learn when we choose curiosity instead?
