Look Deeper

In an episode of the National Geographic documentary, Europe From Above, there is a scene showing a tractor systematically moving row by row in a Netherlands’ tulip field as it mows off all the flowers. This destroys the flowers as part of a process to make the bulbs stronger. For these tulip farmers the bulbs are the most valuable part of the plant.

This got me thinking about how we sometimes need to remove things that may appear at first glance to have value, and/or remain functional.

What is hiding underneath the surface level? When we look deeper, what can we improve or strengthen by taking bold action?
