Liminal Space
Don’t you just love this in-between time? Festivities are over and we find ourselves in that liminal space before the new year.
It speaks to our obsession with being busy and productive that we often refer to these days as lazy ones. It is difficult after spending an entire year running at full speed to stop for a moment or two. Some of us will have the internal voice of expectation reminding us to stay busy.
Yet there is value in leaning in to this time. Relishing the slower pace, the quieter inboxes and to-do lists, the space for thinking and being with family and friends.
It is in this time that we can choose the cadence of our days - early and/or late starts, moderate and/or strenuous exercise, books and/or movies, reflecting back and/or planning forward, daily practices, holiday projects and/or totally chilling out. There’s no one way to spend this in-between time and we must give ourselves permission to do it our own way.
I’m curious, how are you savouring the liminal space at this time of year?
