Hope is Oxygen

“Hope is oxygen.

Much like oxygen, hope is life giving …”

These words - from my book, Change Seekers - are a timely reminder when work and life get a bit bumpy.

We humans crave certainty. Knowing what to expect and feeling safe are core human needs. With uncertainty and change often comes fear and resistance. When we’re going through change, even (especially) the changes we want, it can feel hopeless.

We can fill the air surrounding us with life-giving hope by mindfully focusing on what might be possible.

We can practice flipping our thoughts from “what if this fails” to “what if this goes well”. Using a regular gratitude practice reinforces the large and small moments of positivity and accomplishment. Through these practices, we train our brains to recognise that amidst uncertainty and change, there is much to be grateful for.

And so our hope grows.

When we seek change, things may not be certain (perhaps not likely) however, while they remain possible, there is always hope.
