Fimble-famble

Word of the day:

Fimblefamble

Thanks to the website Mental Floss for alerting me to this 19th century British slang word meaning “a really lame excuse”.

I often hear fimblefamble when working with people and teams on a change journey.

“It will never work.”

“I’m not good enough at this.”

“Things will never change.”

“No-one will do this.”

“Change is impossible.”

“Everyone hates change.”

And so on and so forth.

Yes, there are valid reasons why change can be difficult. A lack of clarity, support and systems, to name a few.

The good news is that we can counter these reasons and create the conditions to make change happen. Once we’ve weeded out the fimblefamble, of course.
