Work That Matters

I feel like I’m on a slippery slide to the end of the year …

When I heard these words today, I nodded along knowingly.

Being carried along. Without control over time. Nothing to hold on to and slow it down.

It is a common feeling.

And one that takes us away from doing the work that matters.

I can’t focus on any of those things until next year …

These were the follow up words I also heard today. Again, a common feeling, albeit a costly one.

Can we really afford to slide uncontrollably into next year? Can we really afford to be unintentional with how we spend our time? Can we really afford to give our energy to other’s priorities instead of the important work before us?

Within the inevitability that comes along with this time of year, also comes the opportunity to focus on the work that matters. It may only be for a moment or two, but it could make all the difference.

Yes, time is ticking on the remainder of this year’s clock. How might you make it count?
