Virtuous Circles

Self-reliance is a skill. So is asking for help.

The relationship between these skills is nuanced and situational. The first is often seen as a strength, the second as a weakness.

Yet they are both critical parts of being human.

Yes, akin to the stubborn 3 year old determined that “I do it myself”, we all learn and grow through experience

And …

We benefit when we connect with others, their existing knowledge and skills, and accept the support and assistance they offer

And …

Over time we strengthen our self-reliance and capability through the help we have received today.

It’s a virtuous circle of human behaviour.

I’m curious, how are you maximising the virtuous circle of self-reliance and asking for help for you, and your workplace?
