Paying Attention

I hadn’t heard the birds outside my office window until I played back the recording.

This was a song that not only added to the ambience of our weekly meeting, it also served as a reminder that there is always something in the background we are not seeing or hearing.

What internal thoughts and feelings are bubbling away?

What unspoken issues or challenges are facing the team at present?

Where is our workplace humming along with energy and enthusiasm?

Once the background comes into the foreground, we willingly stop and take it all in.

Just as I have heard the birdsong throughout my entire working day, I wonder how we might turn our attention and ask: what else can I see or hear?
