Let’s Explore
We’ve always done it that way.
These, or similar, statements are made every day, in workplaces every where.
For those who regularly read my posts here, you’re probably reading this with the same tone as I do.
It’s what I’d refer to as a BUT tone. It’s the defensive response, a reason [read: excuse] as to why change is not an option.
I’ve also heard these words used with an AND tone. It’s the curious, interested response that opens a conversation about how change might be an option.
We’ve always done it that way, AND let’s explore how a new/better/different way might work.
We know that our tone plays a big role in the effectiveness of communication. So, too, for change.
