Feedback Is A Gift

Feedback is a gift …

Trite sound bite, or

a human truth?

Of course, you’re not surprised that I answer both.

When an organisation equates feedback to a practice of top-down criticism, telling us what they think is wrong and what they believe we need to improve, then telling us that feedback is a gift might come across as trite.

When we - and our teams and organisations - respect that feedback is a natural and ongoing process through which humans act, reflect, learn, grow and sustain ourselves. This kind of feedback comes in all shapes and sizes, from all directions, including from within. When we take time to seek out feedback, observe that which comes our way, and to adapt and grow from it, then feedback truly is a gift.

I know I experience the gift of feedback over and over. I’m curious, do you?
